Every notebook begins with page one

My sister gave me this note-sketchbook and I started writing in it to keep a log of thoughts and things I see/hear throughout the day. I was looking sitting on a bench watching geese for an hour. and Normally I don't give a shit about geese because they are mean! but these geese were actually quite nice and used to people walking and talking near them. I didn't bring my camera but i did have a jelly roller so I decided to draw them. 

I've never really looked up close at geese before. They have interesting body structure. Now that I look more and more at them, they are beginning to look quite comical to me. They've got white bellies and brown wing coats when they walk they look like they are carrying a resting penguin on their backs. 

So, if you've never looked at geese either, I know my pictures are not very accurate nor are they realistic, but I swear they looked like that! Here take a look for yourself. Geese from google.

Draw and write '93

Last night I found a couple of pages of Crayola marked rainbows, smiling clouds and Christmas trees. Gosh, I must have been 3 or 4 years old! My sister and I used to sit in the sticky plastic booths at the China Inn Restaurant while my mom would wait tables and bartend. I remember for years, sitting there doing these 'worksheets' my dad made for us on the back sides of invoice scraps (which brings back many more memories) I thought my dad was an artist, he taught us how to draw minnie and mickey mouse which now that I think about it, is probably the only thing he knows how to draw! And for the longest time we drew these minnie and mickey mouse's with their cone tipped noses and helmet shaped faces. 

Also, I have long remembered the days my sister and I--upon waking up in the early morning we'd run down the stairs to draw. All we ever drew was the same thing, A large rainbow and a box with lots of colored dots, another rainbow and a butterfly. Together, we'd work on the same page and create the same compositions day after day. By the end of the year we were pros at mass producing them. Its been quite some time now and I had forgotten all about them, but I found one.

Today I got to experience and hear from Dr. Janice Thompson who is a Pastor of River of Life Church in Prov. and also a founder of prison/Life-line ministry. She was so inspiring to say the least. I have a couple of things here, please excuse the fact that they are so jumbled and in bullet form, they were just so great coming from her lips i have to write them somewhere before I forget them. 


* Men and women are equal before God but we're not independent of each other--men and women have his and her own purpose but they must work together to make up the body..you can't have too much internal conflict, the body systems, tissues and cells work as one entity. 
* To live is to have a living story-- what kind of legacy will you leave? Each life is a story and we're writing our story everyday. And with that, we need to live with purpose and on purpose. and as we do, we cannot fear because fear and faith cannot operate in the same space. She told us a funny story about her fear of dogs (since being bitten from one in high school)and how one time she was getting out of her car to get into the house and she saw a dog walking her way. She could not make herself get out of the car because of this lingering dog and she felt so helpless she had to stay in her car for 30 minutes until she got the courage to walk past the dog, 5 feet to her doorstep. Long story short, she got over her fear and even had a dog of her own for some time:) She was really cute telling that story. 
* Everyone has a purpose in this life, everyone has a purpose and role in the battle and often times the front line of the battle are made of those who are the prayers and the praisers because they bring strength to the army and to the people and fear to the enemies. It's not just our turn to the bat it is our time, its our season. 
* Love is the sign of the cross. You love vertically, you love God and if you love God, you love yourself and then you love horizontally to your friends and neighbors and family and just everyone you meet. This means loving everyone, loving those who hurt us, criminals, people of all walks of life, visions and views. Not every one group has the 'skinny' on God, he's too big for that. We might have a piece and others have another piece and others have yet another piece. Why can't we just come together to enlighten each other?
