A couple of things from Boston

This weekend I decided to pause my DAT studies to celebrate my birthday in Boston with some of my best friends. Boston is such a lovely city, I'd like to live here one day, I'd like to live with these friends one day.
This was a cute bubble tea place. Taro is my favorite flavor, its purple!
The sun was out so we sat by the water side. Roberta tells me she runs here (at the park) every day! Then we got pedicures. I chose bright orange by accident thinking that it was a little more pink than it came out to be. But, I like it!
We walked around for a bit and I saw a motorcyclecartransformer. No joke, how else would you describe it?
Where does one get one of these things?

Dinner with Carolyn, Sarah and Roberta at Sel de la Terre. Best Salmon I have ever had!
My mind was crisp, candied with emotions but I had not any words to express them at the time. A shy 'thanks guys' escaped my lips. And still now, all I can think of is this wonderful poem, I Ask You by Billy Collins:
What scene would I want to be enveloped in
more than this one,
an ordinary night at the kitchen table,
floral wallpaper pressing in,
white cabinets full of glass,
the telephone silent,
a pen tilted back in my hand?

It gives me time to think
about all that is going on outside--
leaves gathering in corners,
lichen greening the high grey rocks,
while over the dunes the world sails on,
huge, ocean-going, history bubbling in its wake.

But beyond this table
there is nothing that I need,
not even a job that would allow me to row to work,
or a coffee-colored Aston Martin DB4
with cracked green leather seats.

No, it's all here,
the clear ovals of a glass of water,
a small crate of oranges, a book on Stalin,
not to mention the odd snarling fish
in a frame on the wall,
and the way these three candles--
each a different height--
are singing in perfect harmony.

So forgive me
if I lower my head now and listen
to the short bass candle as he takes a solo
while my heart
thrums under my shirt--
frog at the edge of a pond--
and my thoughts fly off to a province
made of one enormous sky
and about a million empty branches.
Thanks guys, for everything.

a few things from this week

Currently listening to some smooth Ray Brown. Man, I wish I was cool enough to be able to play Jazz. I have been going to the public library to study these past few weeks. As a kid, I used to hate going to the library. Sorry, I was no book worm like my sister. The memories I have are not pleasant ones. This one time, I remember I got a nose bleed because I was picking my nose. (I kid you not). My mom scolded me as she helped me on the large handicapped toilet. Another time I remember staring at the romance novels, wondering why they all look the same, these chapter books each of them the same length, same racy cover pages and my mom scolded me for looking at them.

The first time I stepped foot in the North Providence Library since I was very little, I realized a lot has changed and not much has changed. a couple of things I noticed: they now have a pet. I didn't really care to see what type  of animal they fancied, perhaps a smelly ferret or guinea pig.

I had to register for a new library card because they've now combined all of the libraries in RI. Crazy stuff right? All the libraries in RI are connected. I think its great. Anyway, I also wandered on to the CD section where found some Norah Jones and Ray Brown and other jazz musicians (which I am currently listening to). I brought them home and put them into my iTunes. Is that illegal? Oh and things that stayed the same: the library makes me fall asleep at my books. So I have resorted to studying at home. Besides it is quite nice, no one is home except for me and poke and bean (sister's cats she brought home one spontaneous summer). My only responsibilities this afternoon: check on grandma to see if she takes all her meds at 2pm. and bring her dinner at 4pm. the rest of the time, is me and my books. (Unless of course I get side tracked with jazz music and blog writing.)
That is all for now.

Polaroid

I was pretty unhappy to find out that Polaroid no longer made instant film for my cheap one-step camera I got last year.
A pack of 600 or its compatible 779 film is so expensive! I've had to resort to ebay to get the many-years-overdue film.

look how expensive!

I'm deciding whether or not to switch to the Fujifilm Instax camera just because film is so much cheaper! Japan always seems to make everything way too cute.

Besides, Lady Gaga is going to be the new head creative director of Polaroid imaging products...

Hospital

On Friday afternoon, we brought my grandmother to the hospital for her G.I problems. I don't think she realizes it but, she has got the entire nursing staff wanting to care for her. She might be the cutest 91 year old in all of Miriam Hospital. She cannot speak any English so all she can do is smile and laugh. She giggles at doctors, nurse, staff, anyone who comes by to say hello, give her medicine or take a blood sample; she laughs so much that her dentures sliding down has become an entity of its own.

Don't let her fool you though, when the staff are gone and its just family, she scrunches up her face again and pretends to cry so that you might take her home so she can take her medicine, put on her lotion and get a good nights sleep. She rubs her face into the itchy blanket and peeks out of her tear-less slits of eyes to see what kind of reactions she can get from us.

I love you grandma.

A Poem from a couple of months ago

Dirty dishes

I hear the engines roaring downstairs.
They do every now and again.
The stale air lifts the smell of gasoline
through these shy windows—the Burks, they must be off again.
I swirl the last of my cereal into the sea of sugary milk
a new addition to my pile of dirty dishes
and coffee-laced mugs.
The room seems small now       and rather grey
The couches,
dusty old things. Their color faded, fuzz.

If I wanted to I could probably dig up a couple of things;
knick-knacks and photo frames,
a crumpled up tissue or two.
But I’d rather just look out at the streets.
The women with their barking dogs and helpless babes,
and the occasional jeep pulling into the raucous garage.

If I wanted to, I could go upstairs and
rest these blank eyes,
but I fear there would be no dream awaiting me.
So all I can do is sit here at this tea stained table
and remember how you hated when I didn’t do the dishes.

Poke and Mr. Sock Monkey

Poke and Sock monkey are getting pretty cozy these days. I'm pretty sure there's something going on between the two.

A seed of inspiration is needed to
finish off this week.
